It’s not anything exceptional, by far. But, it does work well enough for its price. If you’re not trying to shill out $100 on a pair, and either aren’t an audiophile, or simply don’t care for the relative quality, go ahead and buy it.

Noise cancellation is basically redundant. It’s about as effective as it looks; you can cover your ears, or use earbuds and likely get better noise cancellation. Sound quality is alright. It’s not gonna do any wonders, but if you just want a headset, it works.

Oh, and for those getting the Red/Black colored pair (the Recon 50, a PC-targeted version); it does not, in fact, come with a splitter cable, despite what the FAQ, or even the box itself may state. If you look in the product’s description, it doesn’t even say that it comes with splitter cable. That means that if your PC has 2 dedicated Audio/Microphone ports instead of combing the both of them in one, you’re gonna have to settle for sacrificing one of the two main uses of a headset. It’s deceptive, and you should not expect a splitter in the first place (though I’ve seen some reviews that DID apparently get it, it seems. However there are a decent amount who didn’t get it either). That being said… it’s not anymore expensive than its differently-colored peers; it’s on discount to be just as expensive as the others (at least, as I can see now). Perhaps that’s a sign of whether or not you’ll get your splitter cable. Deceptive, sure, but… I suppose it’s not entirely malevolent.

The promise of versatility was one of the key selling points of the Turtle Beach Recon 50X, but sadly, it did not deliver on this front. While connecting to the Xbox One controller with a 3.5mm jack worked as expected, attempting to use the headset with other Xbox One controllers via an Xbox One Headset Adapter (sold separately) proved to be an exercise in frustration. Frequent connectivity issues disrupted gameplay and online chats, severely hampering the overall gaming experience. Additionally, the headset’s performance on other devices with a 3.5mm jack, such as PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile/tablet devices, was inconsistent at best. This lack of seamless compatibility considerably diminished the headset’s value as a truly versatile gaming accessory.

Comfort Compromised by Design:
The touted lightweight and over-ear design initially seemed promising, offering the allure of comfortable gaming sessions for extended periods. The promise of crystal-clear chat and audio was a major draw for the Turtle Beach Recon 50X, but unfortunately, it was not upheld in practice. The high-sensitivity adjustable boom mic, intended for clear in-game and online communication, proved to be a disappointment, consistently delivering distorted and muffled audio to fellow players. Furthermore, even after removing the mic to enjoy music or watch movies, the audio experience remained lackluster. The large 40mm Neodymium speakers, while capable of delivering decent stereo sound, failed to provide the expected clarity, with highs lacking crispness and lows lacking depth. This subpar audio quality significantly detracted from the overall gaming and media consumption experience.

Inconvenient and Unreliable In-line Controls:
The concept of in-line controls, granting easy access to Mic Mute and Master Volume adjustments, appeared convenient on paper. However, in practice, these controls proved to be unreliable and frustrating. The flimsy nature of the controls often led to unresponsiveness, making mid-game adjustments a cumbersome task. This lack of reliability disrupted the gaming experience, adding unnecessary frustration and further detracting from the overall appeal of the headset.

As an enthusiastic gamer seeking a reliable and comfortable gaming headset, the Turtle Beach Recon 50X left me with regret and dissatisfaction. I cannot in good faith recommend this headset to others, as it fails to deliver on critical aspects that define a top-quality gaming accessory. It is my hope that my candid review can provide valuable insight for others considering this product, steering them toward a more rewarding and fulfilling gaming headset experience.

Good headset for its price great quality microphone too only problem is that after some use the wire gets tangled into itself and doesn’t come undone which you don’t want to manually undo because it can mess with the wires and breaks the headset as from previous owned versions of this headset overall it’s great and will last if you take care of it.

Me dedico a atender llamadas de call center y se me hicieron muy cómodos, las almohadillas si evitan que escuche el ruido externo y el volumen es muy bueno. Después de 4/5 horas de uso continuo me llega a sudar un poco la oreja pero pues es normal dado el tiempo que los tengo y que son épocas de calor (verano). En comparación con los skull candy de la segunda foto, los turtle beach tienen mayor capacidad de volumen, se sienten más resistentes y el Microfono al ser flexible le aporta más comodidad.

First of all Products packaging was good. Came in a rather large box, but contents were protected.

It also came with the basic manual etc. Gave this a 3 star review as this headset was recommended by a gamer friend who had purchased one of the later models and had suggested it as a good option for a remote job.

Sound Quality
The first five months of using the product went fairly well. Audio can be turned up very loudly, but if there is background noise the person on the other end will hear it. There is a manual mute botton and volume enhancer botton, but the persons on the other end will hear the odd silence when you press it.

Fit
The fit was pretty good, fits the ears really well. The ear muffs are very big, comfy and round. (As mentioned, before, noise still gets through). Disadvantage, after about 6 months the mock leather on the ear muffs will begin to strip a bit. The headset overall has a pretty big fit, so if you have a small-medium head you may have to readjust a few times. If you have a big head head (tee-hee!), you’ll like it. Plus it has a rigid lengthening options on both ears. The muffs themselves have a bit of pivot in them, but the headband (that rests on top of the head) is made of hard plastic and can break if not treated with care.

Issues I had:
1. The cord or the point that connects into the computer (3.5 mm jack), under six months started to lose static, then over time it stopped working. (Have lighted the part in on the headset that gives trouble overtime). You can hear videos if you turn it the right way, but others won’t hear you clearly, until one day you completely lose the static. Overall was disappointed in the headset as I expected more from a $25 headset.

i bought one of these from the store once and it was $60 it lasted for a while, but this works just as well but is half the price. Great buy.
