The label inside the gamecase can be flipped inside out to display different art and the Sega Genesis game box’s logo instead of Nintendo Switch. That Box art feature Sonic holding the Sega Genesis, Knuckles holding a Sonic 3 cartridge, Amy holding her Sonic CD and Tails holding the Gamegear(the only console to feature him as the headlining character), just beautifully done. The artbook is also really cool. I had the digital base version of this that came out exactly 1 year ago and still paid the full purchase price to re-buy it for these collector’s items rather than taking the discounted upgrade.
Yes the “Plus” is a DLC card. In 2023 only a fool would expect anything else, especially from Sega. However I was overjoyed to learn that on release day. For true fans that already have lots of progress on this game now we don’t have to start from scratch if we got the collector’s edition since our digital copy will be upgraded rather than starting a blank gamecard savefile.

Sonic Origins Plus is a vast improvement over the original Sonic Origins released in 2022.
They have fixed the glitches, made Amy Rose a playable character in all 4 games, made Knuckles playable in Sonic CD and Gave us 12 game gear titles.
The only downfalls are that the 12 game gear titles are DLC content and not on the cartridge/disc and Sonic 3 still had to resort to using the prototype/PC music for 3 of it’s stages due to it having samples/work from deceased artists like Michael Jackson, Heavy D, James Brown and Run DMC (Jam Master Jay).
My only gripe is that they didn’t just directly use the tracks from the prototype. I understand not being able to use the soundtrack as it appeared on the original release. But they re-made the original prototype tracks from scratch and they don’t sound as good.
Overall, with the music changes and the game gear games being DLC, It’s still a very solid collection and well worth the $40. These 2D Sonic Games are Classics and look amazing in HD and in Widescreen.
