These are classics. 100%. No question about that. But $129 is extremely greedy and what most would refer to as “milking the cow”.

These games have seen releases on various handhelds and phones with remasters and mild variations, some remade in 2.5d, etc.

The first few games can often be bought for just $10 each at time on various cell phone app stores, android steam boxes, etc. Each has been available on Steam for some time, and Steam allows some simple kids to better fix the horrendous fonts (although to be fair these Switch versions seem to have slightly inproved the bad ones).

There’s just zero reason to buy a physical copy for $129. Even if you’re a collector/completion it’s and want it for your shelf, I’d strongly suggest passing on this until they drop the price down to $30 where it belongs for the unforeseen future. There’s is ZERO reason to pay this price, or the $79 that Nintendo wants on the Switch eShop. Both are insultingly overpriced for third of a century old 8 bit games with basic remakes.

If the remakes were strictly a new best version for Switch and Switch only/exclusive. Mayyybe then I can see the cash grab. But for under $20 you can grab the PS1 anthologies which are just better revisions of these games.

The newer games up until X2 can be grabbed on various app stores for anywhere from $3-$15. Don’t waste any hard earned money on this. Spend smarter and teach Square Enix a lesson in greed. If they’d have made a NEW 8bit official FF for Switch, I’d happily pony up $50 for a new story in the old style. But they focus on the same rereleases and greed.

This same $129 can buy you a gorgeous Anbernic or Retroid type device and you can play ALL of your favorite classics.

All good, sadly as i am from Chile the package suffered some dents and came curved, beside that all’s good.

Note: This is NOT the collector’s edition, it’s literally just a switch game, not a big package.

I’ve played most of the games on here when originally released. Due to the release of too many games being released a majority of these I only played one time. When square announced the pixel remaster. I was hoping for a physical copy that I could use to play with and enjoy seeing the box art besides all of my original copies. Then square announced limited amounts of copies.
Fortunately I was able to get one from a seller. The day after I planned on just checking out my purchase and posting a review. I was immediately immersed in playing final fantasy v and didn’t get to this review until 4 days later. Improvements to art and music are the least improvements. The joys of these made any possible buyers regret disappear. I still have to revisit 3 of the games. I am pretty sure I will enjoy the improvements to games I enjoyed years ago.

I played these many moons 🌙 ago. Quality of life features are great. Game arrived unopened and in great shape. It was sent in a bubble envelope, which I don’t care for. Not much protection, but, it made the journey just fine.

Seriously, I don’t know why Square Enix had to release this the way they did. Yes, I get physical copies aren’t selling like they used to, but this is Final Fantasy – this would sell, even at the increased price point. Sigh, anyway, over the last few years I’ve been kind of jaded when it comes to Final Fantasy and Square Enix in general. I don’t care about a majority of their new products (I don’t care about XVI and many other of their games but Live A Live and to the two Octopaths were highlights) and the lack of interest in their new products has tainted the older ones I liked. Look, I think everyone and their brother (sister?) has played the multiple variations of these games that have come down the pike in the last two decades. I mean their were PS1, GBA, PSP, etc. releases. I thought I was burned out on them but after playing this I did find there was some juice left in these games.

I’ve only played the first three games so far (also, thank you for adding the boost [EXP and GIL multipliers] options, this cuts out 10-20 hours of busy work per game) and I’m pleased. FFI is a good rendition of the first game (I do miss some of the additions from the PS1 version) but it was FF2 that really won me over. Don’t get me wrong, FF2 still kind of “busted” but it’s a fun, Final Fantasy VIII junction system kind of busted now. I was really looking forward to playing a 2D remake of FFIII, but man, I felt it limboed under the bar. Oddly enough, I can’t help but feel the NDS/2DS 3D remake from years ago is better, which is weird because while I liked that version, it never wowed me. However, in retrospect, I think it’s better than I gave it credit for all those years ago.

I do have to mention that there are some slight performance issues with FFIII but they are minor for the most part. I do think it was nice that they tweaked the final boss of III to make it way less infuriating than it was on the NES (if you know, you know), but at the same time I like how they tweaked the last boss in II so he’s actually a little more of a threat than he used to be.

All things said, this is a nice package and was worth the wait in my opinion. Also, this means every Final Fantasy through X-2 are on one, single console, which is nice if X-2 is your cut off point like it is for me. The only thing I could ask for is if they could do some DLC and restore some of the bonus content/extra features from some of the previous versions. I mean I think everyone and their mother would want the Rebirth mode from FFII on the GBA to make a return.
